Whether it provides new insights into our world via a one-search box or not is left to be seen.
Where I do think semantic analyzers like Alpha have the potential to bring about a revolution in computing is in it's real handling of natural language queries. Both in the question, and the single, simple answer. So I could easily hook up my Mac's speech input to ask questions of my computer orally and get responses aurally, whether it's in the hallway, in my kitchen, office, or living room. http://start.csail.mit.edu/startfarm.cgi?query=What%20is%20the%20weather%20today%20in%20Arlington,%20va? Doesn't work, but could: http://start.csail.mit.edu/startfarm.cgi?query=What%20is%20the%20traffic%20like%20on%20495-North? And for deeper data - A next generation of natural language programming interfaces. It would be like building up visual analytics like Yahoo Pipes where you can loosely chain queries together and get meaningful results.
