Both ways are valid. I would call Rich an expert in terms of georeferencing audio, that is as much of an expert there is in this tiny niche of a field.

Many people prefer to plot audio by a single point. Does it work? Sure! You can see that in action on places like zooomr (zooomerations). Does it make for a reasonable long term solution? No not really, but points are simple.

Go ahead and make a spec, but that doesn't necessarily make it a standard. If only it were that simple!

Not meaning to be hostile.  If I'm going to be publishing a standard
for georeferencing audio (and nobody else seems to be doing so), then
I want to publish a good one.

Above, you said "I often do sound recording while moving."  That
sounds to me like you're actively aware of and managing the recording
process.

Like what?  I can't imagine any circumstance in which a path would be
more useful than a point.  Perhaps, as Tom suggested, it would be
better for the audio to be continuous, with the point merely being
inserted out of band into the audio stream.

I agree with you that having an audio file and a movement track
correlated is better than not having the movement information.  I
think it would be better to have begin/end markers that says "this
segment of audio discusses this location".
