You've described it very well. There has been some discussion of this on
the list, and you have what we've been calling a DPP or Dark Patched Pied.
It comes from having the gene for Spotting in a Lilac (or other colored)
gerbil, and part of the body doesn't show the lightening effect that Sp
would normally have on the whole body.

I have bred a male DPP to his sapphire daughter, and come up with one baby
out of 4 also carrying this odd dark patch. Does your Dove show any white
on her head or neck? it can be very hard to see. I have pictures of my male
on the web at http://people.tamu.edu/~rda3507/verence.html It still says on
there "Dove", even though I now know he is a Lilac Spotted. Also, his
spotting is more visible in person.
