Everyone is different on when they change the cage or touch the pups, mine
get the cages changed every 2 wks whether the pups are 4 hours old or 4 wks
and not had any problems with the babies, I did have a male bite me 15 years
ago when I did this though. The colors you listed from the gene predictor
don't quite make sense a red eyed schimmel is --ppCCG-efef, which would mean
both parents would be Eef given the colors you listed but it also has argente
nutmeg (red fox) and red eyed algerian (yellow fox) which are eef or ee which
means the parents would have to both be Ee or one Ee and the other Eef. What
were the parents colors of your gerbils?
