No I'm using water bottles, but I have about 3 inches of litter in the tank
(I'll be posting some of my tank setups soon btw) for the gerbils to burrow
and make tunnels in.  This means that they sometimes kick it into a
mountain of say 6 inches.  If that happens to be where the water bottle is,
then the litter touches the tip and it drips.

Is the slime something that is visible?  Unless there is something I've put
in the water (e.g., medication), the water always looks clear even if left
for a week or more.
