why would it be illegal? Pet snakes and other such carniverous animals need
to eat, and for some such species, gerbils provide better nutrition then
rats or mice. Many petshops will sell gerbils as LIVE snake food if someone
asks for it, which is even worse (horrible for the gerbil/rat/mouse to
experience plus the snake could get bitten and hurt or killed). Frozen is
thus more humane for both involved.

Sorry that some find it horrific, people in the rat and mouse community make
similar comments about their favorite pet species being used as feeders for
snakes by other people. Rabbit fanciers get upset thinking about other
people feeding rabbits to snakes, or even eating rabbits themselves. But
this is all a fact of life. Love your own pets all the more, give 'em a
treat and tell them how lucky they are to be with you and not "somewhere
else".
