I just wanted to say that I agree with you, Molly! I'm a volunteer for my
local SPCA shelter and they virtually always have hamsters, gerbils, mice
and rats- and they literally always have guinea pigs and rabbits. It's the
same with the Animal Rescue League here and the SPCA where my parents live.
It's sad, but most people are unaware that these little critters are often
abandoned too, for the same reasons people abandon dogs and cats. There are
several guinea pig rescues here and one in the UK that I know of that are
overflowing with pigs at the moment. (Anyone with room in their hearts and
homes for a little piggie, please check them out- these rescues are
desperate!)
I do not support hobby or show breeding of animals, and I don't buy
anything from pet stores that sell live animals regardless of the condition
of the store.
I am a vegetarian, too, for whatever that's worth.
I don't run around telling people who breed animals or eat meat that
they're wrong- my approach is that if you can get up every morning and look
at yourself in the mirror and be okay with whatever it is you do, then
that's your business. This is what's okay for myself.
Just my 2 cents!
