Seems to be true around here too--I volunteered to our humane society that I
would take in any kind of rodents they got in. They've never called me, and in
all the times I've been down there, they've never had any. The only time I know
of our local SPCA getting any rodents in (hamsters and GPs), they were all put
down immediately =(
When I first started in gerbils I bought 4 from a pet store, but that was all.
After that I discovered a few hobby breeders that I could get gerbils from, and
never went back. maybe it's just my experience with dogs and commercial
breeding that has turned me all sour but I just do not like the idea of raising
animals for profit. It doesn't sit well with me. So I avoid supporting it
whenever I can.
