FYI, these two libraries are quite portable, there was little problem
in building them on Win32. (Well, I skipped the recently added
gnomecanvaspixbuf.) As far as portability is a concern, I think we can
go ahead and use these without hesitation in 1.3.

I haven't looked at gnome-canvas yet on Win32, dunno how portable it
might be.
