My correction is -7.00 and -7.50.  I got the mid-index lenses from
Zenni and they are not ridiculously thick at all.  They're about 1 mm
thicker than a similar pair that I have in high index.

If you order a frame with lenses narrower than 50mm you can minimize
the coke bottle effect.  And plastic frames also conceal some of the
thickness of the lenses; although my frames are metal and they look
fine.

And a nearsightedness correction like yours and mine makes your eyes
look smaller, not larger.
