Hi Folks, My first experiences with online eyeglass purchasing were very different. Got rimless, progressive photochromic lenses.
First up was LBW, did it kind of spur of the moment and as I sadly learned I should have checked them out a bit more. My experience with them validates their current "F" rating from the BBB. I never received any kind of order confirmations from them, nor tracking numbers. I had to refer to the PayPal receipt for when I placed the order. After waiting a month I contacted them and they said the glasses had broken before they had been shipped to me. Two weeks later they came. However, they seem to have been handled roughly as the plastic case was broken. The glasses though seemed fine and I was happy with the Rx. Two months later I took them off to wipe them and the lens just crumbled in my hand where the nose piece was screwed into the lens. (I had to leave a bon voyage for friends who were moving before dark and a major storm front came in as all I had were old Rx sunglasses.) I sent them back for replacement (thankfully with a return receipt given their lack of acknowledgments). They received them on June 11th. Again, a month goes by. Then two e-mail inquiries days apart did not get a response. Called them... they did not sound overly concerned or apologetic, and it was clear my replacements were not on the radar. He tells me I'll get them at the end of the next week, which is today July 24. (basically two weeks). My mail has not yet come today, but for some reason I kind of doubt the glasses will arrive. I should have asked for a refund rather than replacement. The LBW website does not keep your Rx info for you. They also changed their log in from a user name to email address. This was annoying as my initial registration didn't work. Verdict: I will stay away from LBW. Contrast this with EyeBuyDirect. When the LBW glasses broke I ordered from EBD. They were here within two weeks. Rx excellent. Decided to buy another pair of Rx sunglasses, again arrived within two weeks (still don't have LBW replacement). Their web site remembered my Rx so ordering the second pair was quick 'n easy, I got both order and shipping confirmations by email. On top of this, I got an e-mail offer for buy one get one free. I did not take advantage of this, after all I am still waiting for the LBW replacements, but I probably should have. Verdict: EyeBuyDirect FTW! As I look... I still have one day to get EBD's BOGO offer..... -- Check us out at the oft-updated http://glassyeyes.blogspot.com!
