Thanks for the comments everyone! Sorry for the late response, as its
been a rather hectic week.

The article is for the Yale Climate Media Forum, a new online portal
designed to help improve the quality of climate science reporting in
the popular press. The website just launched earlier today, and you
can find it here: http://www.yaleclimatemediaforum.org/

WMC: I noticed that the THC discussion seems to involve a number of
"hideously complex oceanographic reasons". I tried to simplify as much
as possible while still getting the core concepts correct, and I'm
sure the editor will simplify it even more. That said, I'll make sure
to add more qualifiers to possible causes of paleo THC shutdowns and
the ongoing debate over what exact role the THC plays in heating
Northern Europe.

I just finished another short article on something near and dear to
your heart: the 70's global cooling myth. It should be online some
time in the next few weeks.

MT: See the link above for the venue. Also, I mention Broecker in the
second to last paragraph, borrowing the quote he gave in the Nature
article that "the notion that [a modern THC shutdown] may trigger a
mini ice age is a myth."

Fergus: I'll correct the range of modeled slowdowns. Am I correct in
saying that no model shows a complete shutdown in this century, or
should I qualify that a bit (e.g. virtually no). Also, whats a good
source for potential non-Eurocentric impacts of a slowdown?

Adam: I noticed the controversy over that in the literature. However,
I got the impression that the mainstream view currently is that the
THC -does- play a large role in N European climates.
