Two things to think about. The spring in the master cylinder causes the
piston in the master cylinder to return to the up position when you lift
your foot off the pedal and this creates a suction vice a pressure in
the master cylinder that pulls the piston in the caliper back to it's
resting position. Weak spring or sticking piston in the Master
cylinder?? The second item deals with brake hoses. I had a brake
failure in my MGB where one rear brake was dragging and would not
release unless I opened the bleed valve which is hard to do while
driving. I finally traced it to a problem that I had read about in a
MGB club newsletter. The inner liner of the hose had deteriorated to
the point where a piece was blocking the bore of the hose and was acting
like a check valve. I replaced the hose and ended the problem. All of
the brake hoses in my Coupe appeared to be the original hoses. All were
as hard as rocks, especially the one at the master cylinder. I made new
hoses. Cost is minimal and takes about 15 minutes per hose to make.
$16.00 for two fittings and hose is $4.50 per foot. My A&P hydro tested
the hoses for free.
