Joe, The term "Grounded" is being used in a generic way. The key here is that the static charge needs to be the same between the fueling device (wether it be can, funnel, or pump nozel) and the aircraft. That is what the strap is for. If the static charge is diferent the spark will ocure whille puting the "ground" strap on the aircraft. Thats why fuel trucks have the strap between the truck and aircraft, both vehicles are on ruber tires and are "grounded" to eachother. "Grounding is EXTREAMLY IMPORTANT!! On several ocations I have witnessed a small spark from when I hooked up Happy and Safe Flying. Dan N93805 the ground strap to the exaust.
