Fabric wings - good. Metal wings - potentially bad - get a GOOD
inspection.
Don't assume metal can sit outside better than fabric. Fabric is good
because every 20 or so years you take it off and fix - really well -
what's
underneath. Fabric also weighs many pounds less (I've heard the number 40
lb. but can't confirm it.)

Mice are your worst enemy in terms of corrosion. Keep them out at all
costs.

No pedals - good for long cross country trips because of the extra
comfort.
Also extra comfort to passengers who are otherwise worried about "touching
the controls and causing a crash." Not having the ability to slip gives
rudderless Coupe pilots a keen appreciation of good approach control and
improves and rewards their skill.

Pedals - good if you want to build time for an aviation career. Otherwise
-
well, they let you keep the plane level while you use both hands to fold
the
maps. (I have pedals so I speak with experience.) You _can_ slip enough
to
increase your decent for improved approach control. You _can_ land one
wing
low up to about 12-15 mph direct cross wind but over that I've leveled the
wings and touched down in a true, pure, Ercoupe crab.

Subject: [COUPERS-FLYIN] Coupe in Roswell

----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any
advice in this forum.]----

Hey Group,

I went and looked at the Coupe in Roswell today. It was a very
educational trip. It's being rebuilt by an A&P with and AI assisting.
The
wings were off, so I was able to check the rear spar center sections, and
the wing inspection holes were open. It is very good shape. It has 100
hr
engine. Tons of new parts. A bubble canopy, tinted rear windows,
Comm,
Nav-Comm, intercom. It has the ERCO rudder pedals so you steer it like a
Coupe. Scott master cylinder, Cleveland brakes. It is at a stage that I
can help with paint, and chose it as well. The present owner has gone to
great lengths to gather records. I spent about 20 mins on a Micro-Fiche
viewer today and saw the original bill of sale from ERCO to the
dealership.
Its hard to believe after all my looking, I come down to two planes with
in
45 miles of each other. The main difference at this point is (fabric
wing,
no rudder pedals) (metal wing, rudder pedals). Input PLEASE :o)
