Dear Sirs,
Please consider all of the comments that have been sent in regarding
the
proposed Airworthiness Directive. I have flown a 1946 Ercoupe since 1994
and certainly do not want any safety hazards overlooked. I do hope the
following items receive attention:
* Univair, the holder of the Type Certificate, has not officially
released the Service Bulletin regarding the actual inspection hole
placement.
* Thorough inspection of the area with the wing removed, allowing for
fewer inspection holes (with their attendent installation costs and dirt
entry).
* Long time to corrode after said thorough inspection. Corrosion
treatments can be initiated.
* All inspection covers must be removed for examination on every annual
inspection, thus increasing time and costs.
* Initial costs at a time when aviation is not in the best of health.
During the time I have owned an Ercoupe, I have found it a delight to
fly. All that I have given rides in have also found it a teriffic
experience. I have also taken advantage of the "owner-assisted annual" to
keep up on the physical state of my airplane. I feel that they are an
easily maintained and safe aircraft. Were they not, they would have been
eliminated from the civil fleet well before now.
Sincerely,
Percy G. Wood
Director, Region 3
