Speaking of... Ya know, when I was at the 2000 Ercoupe Owners Club
nationals
in College Park, and it was announced that the next meeting would be in
Texas,
I was swept by a fantasy. I could go back to Roswell and get Opal to fly
me out!
Well, I ruminated on that thought. And the more I rum'd, the better it
became.
So I wrote Opal and layed it all out to him. Whaddya know, he went along!
Flew commercial to ROW. Opal and I rolled 99762 out the next day and
departed.
Using the GPS his boy (the local dentist) had programmed, we made it to
Terrell
just fine. `Cept for the part about the fuel cap - `nother story.
And also as I had planned, Opal took home the Oldest Pilot Flying
In. Would your
CFI (whom I have heard stories of) allow that, Spook? And we flew home
just fine,
thank you.
So ya know what Opal does? After being oldest at 90, he takes his
other
boy and
flys all the way to Michigan in 2002! This is 91 years old, sports
fans. So much for
'life in hands.'
