I agree completely. Besides there are no 100% guarantees except for the
one that assures us that we will all die eventually.

My CFI got ticked off at me because I went for a ride with an 83 year old
pilot in his T-6.  My CFI said, "The pilot could have dropped dead.  You
could have both died. You don't know enough to land that plane by yourself
and he doesn't fly high enough for you to bail out even if you had the
nerve to jump."  What my CFI said is true and I thought it over before I
went up with the senior gentleman.  I weighed the costs and benefits and I
decided that even if we didn't make it back it would be worth it.

Nothing bad happened and it was a wonderful flight.  Not only has the
pilot been flying continuously since he was a young man, he flew T-6s and
several other planes off carriers in WWII.  And if that isn't enough, he
not only flew these fantastic planes, he was an instructor and taught
other guys how to do it too.  To be able to fly in one of the real planes
(yeah, I know it's "just" a trainer) with one of the real guys who was
actually there was a fantasy come true.  I would not have passed it up for
anything.
