Pete, I replaced the one in my Forney last year with a stainless one from
Skyport. Most of the problem lies in the section of housing in the tail
where there is a severe "S" from the left side of the fuselage to the
right side of the elevator. That short section seems prone to
rust/corrosion, so after removing the old wire (it took lots of tugging,
working and WD-40), I shot the housing full of lubricant and worked the
new cable in. It helped to blunt, or round the end of the new cable so it
wouldn't hang up as I worked it through the housing up to the cockpit. It
was a hassle, but it works pretty well now. Eventually I intend to
rebuild the whole cockpit mechanism so the whole trim system works
smoothly. I have the quadrant style trim handle, right next to the
throttle. Unfortunately it was not a very good design in the long run.

Good luck.

Subject: [COUPERS-FLYIN] Trim Tab Cable

Hi everyone, has anyone changed the elevator trim tab cable? I have tried
to work mine loose all summer with various lubricants to no avail, I can
move it with a set of pliers, but not with the console mount lever next to
the throttle. The local FBO does not carry the stainless stock. What I am
cuious about is this, is it possible to take the old one aout and after
sanding it, get it back in. My experience with cables of this type in the
past has been that it is best to follow the old one out with the new one
abutting it. Your input is appreciated, my intention is to take the old
one out, and if I have enough after I clip off the one crimped end, the
sand it , lube it and put it back in. If I don't have enough after cutting
off the crimped end, I will need to replace it.Pete

Pete :-):-):-):-):-)
Have a great day!!!
