Hi Gordon,
I nearly didn't buy my coupe when I found out it had no rudder
peddles. In fact, I didn't even want
to go for the planned 'test ride' if I couldn't 'slip it in' on final.
The guy who was selling it was a friend of mine so he talked me into
going for 'free ride' since we
were already out there and had it out of the hangar.
I figured 'what the heck, how can I refuse a free ride'. That was the
most expensive ride I ever
took in any plane. As soon as we were off the ground he told me to take
over the controls, so I did. I
flew it for about 15 or 20 minutes and headed back for the airport. About
half way down final I turned
it back over to him for the actual landing.
When we got back to the hangar and got out of the coupe I wrote him a
check for the plane and the
hangar. Obviously the fun of the coupe far out weighed the fun of slipping
in an final.
For the first few flights I tried to stomp holes in the floor board of
the cockpit, but I finally
discovered that if I pulled my feet back to the seat and crossed my lower
legs that it was far easier
to fly than trying to kick holes in the floor board.
Do I like my coupe? Do I think I made the right decision?
ABSOLUTELY!!! I wouldn't sell it today
for three times what I paid for it. I LOVE MY LITTLE BIRD!
Get someone in your area to give you a 'free ride' in a coupe, just
don't forget to bring your
checkbook with you in case it's for sale.
I've lived in three different parts of California while I was in the
USAF, where is Wilton, I've
never heard of it.

PS Don't worry about your 'rudder habit' you'll kick it in no time at
all.
