It's easy not to be impressed with Wine, after all it only works with some
programs, and even then they don't always work properly. Wine is
constantly in change, it's a massive project to write an API translator
for a set of APIs that are not documented (properly if at all) and that
have major differences between versions (Win95/98/NT etc....). Also, a
year is a long time, especially in Wine terms.

FWIW about 18 months ago I hapily ran MS Word 6.0 under Wine for several
months w/o to much trouble. It all depends on what you want to do with,
and how much time you have to play with it.

VMWare is great little thing, but you do pay a performance penalty for it,
and you still have to pay MS for their bloatware and pay for the VMWare
license itself.
