Well, as we all know, there are always likely to be difficulties with
experimental kernels - that's a given. However, the tact that I've
taken over the last 4-5 years is to do a 'make bzdisk' so that the
new kernel gets plopped out onto a bootable floppy. This preserves my
normal LILO setup for the 'production' ("stable") kernel. (You should
follow the 'make bzdisk' with a 'make modules' and 'make
modules_install', then reboot with the new kernel if you like).
However, since RH6.0 came out with the new cockamanie boot-up stuff,
you WILL get a kajillion error messages about system.map not being
correct for the kernel. However, I've been able to successfully ignore
them. If you've stumbled onto a fairly stable experimental kernel,
you could bo into /boot and rearrange some of the symlinks to point
to the stuff for your new kernel, which will make RH 6.* happy and
reduce your noise on boot, but that's strictly optional, IMNSHO.
