What is most irksome in this case is that sometime in the
last several weeks I *know* I saw somebody talking about
a problem that was either exactly this one, or darned
close, but I can't remember where I saw it. (maybe it
was the linux-kernel list) I think it had something
to do with executing some Pentium-specific instruction
before the kernel had properly detected that it was
running on an AMD chip. Oh, well - I promise to pass
along any info of use, and I still like my Thunderbird.
