This reminds me of a question I have wanted to ask. Recently (say
within the last 2-3 weeks), my Mediaone (aka ATT Broadband) cable modem
connection has been *REALLY* poor. E.g. frequent outages where I can't
even ping my local router for 2-10 mins at a stretch, and the Cable
Modem will often loose Block Sync (little green led, lower right on
lancity) for about as long. I notice these outges many times
(10-30?) a day on bad days.

If I run tcpdump during an outage I often see "arp who-has" and similar
packets arriving, so I don't think it is the wiring in and around my
house that is the problem.

Anyone else seeing this? I am in the Manchester area.

Anyway, the thought crossed my mind could these outages be due to Ddos
attacks that flood the channels? Seems unlikely, but I wonder...

Cheers,

Karl
