Most "free ISPs" avoid Linux because the Open Source nature makes it too
easy to defeat their advertising system. Also, many Linux people want quality
(look at their choice of OS, after all... ;), and your "free ISP" generally
doesn't have the money to do a really excellent job. So Linux is often not a
good target market for these "free ISPs".

Also, consider this: Banner ads are not generating the revenue that these
ventures were hoping they would. Wall Street is realizing that "hemorrhage
money" is a bad business plan. The free money these "dot com" ventures are
depending on is drying up. So there is some serious doubt that any of these
"free ISPs" will be around that much longer...

If you like dealing with the local guy, I have found TTLC of Dover covers a
good portion of south-eastern NH, has reasonable rates, and decent support.
They're not the best ISP in the world, but they're far from the worst.

The company I work for is a Vitts reseller, and Vitts covers that area with
their DSL presence. We're currently running specials -- get the 272 Kbit/sec
DSL for the 144 Kbit/sec price. Sign a term commitment, and they wave the
install fee. Call 1-866-NTI-LINUX for the details. ;-)
