I have that modem as a "rental" from M1. It is working fine for me under
Debian/Win98/Win95 (not that there's really any issues between an external
modem and your OS, as long as your OS is talking well w/ your network card,
right?).
I would be interested in the purchase deal as well except for the fact that
there are still no standards out there yet if I understand correctly. I am
in an apartment situation now, and plan on moving out this year...and
building a house next year. With no standards and the idiotic monopoly
situation the government enforces on cable services, there is a very good
chance that your modem won't be useful unless you stay within M1's service
area. As long as you keep M1 for at least 10 months, then you've paid off
the modem and broke even, plus you have the modem for future. Starting your
11th month you're getting ahead of M1's little game. So you really don't
have much to loose if you're sure you're going to stick with them.
