  Red Hat's current Xconfigurator will detect known video cards, query the
attached monitor for its capabilities, and generate an appropriate
XF86Config file.  It is almost magic.  I imagine it could be ported to
Debian, but I do not know if anyone has actually done the work.

  In the past, Debian users have told me the easiest way to configure X on
Debian is to install Red Hat and save their XF86Config file.  ;-)
