...and indeed, when I logged into my office Debian
machine from home and executed that command it
generated a very neatly laid out file which does
appear likely to serve as the starting point for a
straightforward configuration session, though I won't
know until I'm physically in front of the machine
again next week.  Thanks to all for the responses.
