>Michael, >This is one reason why there are different distributions, with >different philosophies.
Of course. I just didn't know when I bought in to SuSE how different their 'philosophy' was ;0) They put together a fabulous package which almost installed itself. But the pieces that fell through were show stoppers until I wrangled some expert help... >If SuSE's process of putting up their ISOs later on in the release cycle, or >their philosophy of bundling the more expensive software into the >"Professional" >set discourages you Well I still say there are no isos, especially for PPC, and I did not buy the 'professional' line. I don't think I had that choice for PPC. But the prices were up there anyway, $75 a pop. >Debian has at least as many >packages as SuSE does, and I have heard that their network update facility is >at least as good as SuSE. Thank you for the links, Jon. There were at least 3 vendors with PPC distros for little $. This may be the direction I should take next, because the features I want supported, such as PCMCIA wireless, do not work out of the box anyway, as recent replies to my questions on this list indicated. So if I'm tweaking stuff myself anyway I might as well save $50 and start venturing out and experimenting with other CDs ;0) I don't wish to sound like a whiner, just reporting my experiences, so I'll conclude by saying I'm really enjoying learning Linux, and thanks again for the friendly advice and support of this list. Kind Regards, --Michael ***************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the text 'unsubscribe gnhlug' in the message body. *****************************************************************
