And they do. Red Hat Linux contains a notice (see the 'COPYING' file) that, unless otherwise specified, everything on the CD is covered under the terms of the GPL. This notice exists on Red Hat discs 6.2, 7.2, and 2.1. I assume it exists on the others as well. It says one may not redistribute YaST for any kind of payment, but says "Making YaST ... available free of charge .... on FTP Servers and mailboxes is permitted if the licenses on the software are observed." I am not sure how giving CD copies to a friend fits in to that. If I had to interpret, I would say making CD copies is okay, provided one does so for free.
