Indeed, that would be swell.
I'm also seeing that "Don't Autocomplete" does indeed abandon the
auto-complete list, but brings it right back up again when you type the
next matching letter. ESC does the same. I'm pretty sure I filed a bug
on this, off to Bugzilla I go...
