Now consider this, Jackson was a grown man of 50, who for years was estranged from his family and infact had a very troubled relationship with his father. During these 50 odd years of Jackson's life, the family did precious little to reign in Jackson's bizarre lifestyle. For years and years the family aided and abetted Jackson's addiction, making whatever excuses it needed to make for him and now it is truly rich that they should seek to sue the doctor. A very similar situation is occurring in Goa. For all the time I have been on Goanet at least, I have been crying hoarse about how the fundamentalist groups in Goa will grow to strangle our very democracy. Some months back I was demonised as being a fear-monger and trying to divide the community along communal lines. Now the chickens have come home to roost. They aren't targeting just Muslims or Christians, their targets have turned to respectable members of the Hindu community themselves. The only problem is how do we fell the giant of distortion that we have created in our midst? Frederick tells us that these individuals should be taken on in the Marathi media. The more important question is why are the Marathi media papers recruiting grounds for these individuals? The power that these groups have is their ingenuity. What is peddled is nothing but falsity but of course it can always be true can't it? If it is couched in the right manner. It could just be true that Muslims are responsible for centuries of persecuting Hindus and should now inturn be victimised lest they rise again and build a few more Taj Mahals; it just could be true that Christians are responsible for the Inquisition and that they could suddenly turn a 1.2 billion country into a Christian stronghold? That the vast Hindu majority has failed in Goa to actually question these untruths, to vociferously take on these groups, to me says they have been nothing more than the Jackson family of Goa. best, selma
