It was in October 1999. But the controversy still continues...
Today there is no consensus among the general population. The
Christian Church (and Hindu ones too) have 'produced' abusive priests
and sadhus.

children (altar boys) and females (devadasis).

it. Since it is controversial, some individuals think that these
priests and sadhus should be avoided, and people should be advised not
to take their children near these abusers.

**This logic is not mine, it is absurd. Only an "insane" could produce it. Why should JC be harping on this topic? Pedophilia is a crime. We cannot say that the Catholic Church is "producing" abusive priests. There has been a lot of false propaganda, money greed (accusing after 40 years), blown off out of proportion, anytihing being considered to be "pedophilia"( a hug, a slap, a touch). If there are sick people in all walks of life, they should be properly treated and rehabilitated. It is criminal and means should be taken to tackle this evil. Pedophilia exists not only among some (very few) Catholic priests, but also among Hindu 'bhotts', parents and employers ( to some extent). It is a disease, it is an evil. When we speak about aspartame and monosodium glutamate, we are discussing whether it is harmful or not. Scientists write that it is absolutely safe. In practice, it has been taken as harmful. If it is harmful, it should be banned. Physicians in their advice ban it. If it is not harmful, it can be used by those who wish. We know that 'soft drinks' have been considered by physicians as harmful for children ( with phosphorus depletion and bone diseases, at least), and sometimes even drugs have been added, as parents have complained. If this is true, then it is serious. It becomes a crime and should be avoided.
