I always had the (conspiracy theorist) view that that the license
change was a poison pill to encourage a fork.  In any case the success
of xorg was due to more than the license.

agreed.  I'm not familiar with emacs.  The BSDs have had pretty good
cooperation but have diverged over time.  This will be interesting.
Hopefully it won't result in sites limiting IceWeasel because its not
IE/Firefox.  Firefox had a hard enough time getting supported, the
free version may never.
