In short I thought it was something like this: Xfree86 devs decided that they wanted to change the license. Different Linux distributions said that they couldn't use Xfree86 if the license changed to the proposed, but the Xfree86 devs said that the license will be a fact. Then the X.org Foundation was founded before Xfree86 4.4 (which was under the new license) was released, true, but an official X.org release came some months later. http://www.dwheeler.com/essays/gpl-compatible.html#xfree86 > Mozilla draws from the Win and Mac communities where > this is a much smaller issue. One "unfree" version for Win and Mac and another free version for those that need it (Linux/*BSD). I don't think that Firefox will be branched in a similar way that Xfree86 was, instead the free version will just be a stripped version. -- /Jonas Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/mail/ _______________________________________________ gobolinux-devel mailing list gobolinux-devel@lists.gobolinux.org http://lists.gobolinux.org/mailman/listinfo/gobolinux-devel
