I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out what this excellent
example of how to snap a point to the nearest street doesn't work in
IE8

Very easy to try. Go to first example here

http://econym.org.uk/gmap/snap.htm

And try the example in IE, FF, etc. In IE8 (i haven't tried) in other
browsers, it snaps to odd, erratic points. The principle is simple,
it tries to get directions to from a point to itself. and then pics
the first vertex as the snapping point.

The mind boggling part is that the second example (which snaps the
drop point of a marker being dragged), works in IE8. It uses the exact
same principle (and code, actually). Here is a link to the second
example

Any help much appreciated
