Majken,

You might be mistaken. Mitchell is reported to have not supported Brendan and to have said that there was pressure from *all* sides.

Interesting that she is reported to have linked Brendan leaving to 'Preserving Mozilla’s integrity'. Sounds a bit like her blog post so perhaps it was not misread, and it still has not been taken down, so at this point can we take it as read.

She is also reported as saying that "making sure others continue to join and support Mozilla’s efforts is even more important.” There is now an even larger backlash so what is she going to do to "making sure others continue to join and support Mozilla"? What has she done? She has not even clarified her blog post.

Or is this just another inaccurate media report that misquotes her?

Brendan also claims that the Board first raised the idea of him stepping down on the 26 March.

Would it be fair to say that the Board changed their assessment of Brendan being suitable for the CEO position based on a campaign against his personal beliefs on marriage and political donations? Can you see that some people do not consider this to be fair and that Mozilla have not been transparent and that people are skeptical that the Board will not make this same judgement in future hiring decisions.

People understand Brendan was under a lot of pressure and do not hold it against him for leaving. It was not a nice environment. Unfortunately standing up for the open web is a dark place.

“It’s clear that Brendan cannot lead Mozilla in this setting,” said Baker, who added that she would not and could not speak for Eich. “The ability to lead — particularly for the CEO — is fundamental to the role and that is not possible here.”

“I think there has been pressure from all sides, of course, but this is Brendan’s decision,” Baker said. “Given the circumstances, this is not surprising.”

Baker — who became emotional at one point during the interview — noted that she was “doing a fair amount of self-reflection and I am wondering how did I miss it that this would matter more when he was the CEO.”

Preserving Mozilla’s integrity was paramount, she said, especially since “we are heading into a period of global mass surveillance and the role of those fighting against will be more important than ever.”

She added: “This is hard since Brendan is a founder and has contributed so much here. But making sure others continue to join and support Mozilla’s efforts is even more important.”

Well, what is the basis of agreement? It seems like a lot of people giving
us a hard time are deciding the outcome that is "just" and then finding
reasoning to back up their decision. We didn't force him out, we are not
happy that he's gone, we are annoyed that this was caused by external
pressure, it does not appear that anyone's free speech rights were
violated, but the opposite, that this happened because many people
exercised their rights to free speech. That's only one piece of the puzzle
though, however it's the piece of the puzzle you highlighted.

We didn't force him out. We didn't force him out because of his views. We
knew about his donation 2 years ago.

That's just an article that agrees with Eich being purged.
