I can't speak for healthlink but I think you will find its to reduce
support headaches. Clients on workstations need permissions to save
files on the server and if the client runs as a service, which is
desirable, it needs a server login setup to access the share.

While this is pretty basic, the IT support is often average and pretty
non-responsive, so even when we know what the problem is, As we get
error messages that tell us the errors, we cannot get the problem
fixed.

We (Medical-Objects) have one practice where this has been happening
for a week and the IT support/Practice won't respond to Emails etc to
try and sort it out. So the non server install becomes a support
headache. It all comes down to trying to make the service reliable and
not consume excessive support for basic security problems.

eg: Here is an example ;-)

20060518033015+1000^EHL7RoutingHTTPForwardException^"EFCreateError:Cannot
create file ""Z:\Apps\MDW2\qhps05180330671.ORU"". The system cannot find the
path
specified"

and another:

Error is: EFCreateError:Cannot create file "G:\MDW2\SSC12022002737.ORU". The
system detected a possible attempt to compromise security.
Please ensure that you can contact the server that authenticated you
