Those people who matter do. Those who don't ...

The "majority" eats takeaway, is sedentary, gets fat, and watches TV while waiting to die of NIDDM consequences or preventable CV disease, while in the meantime they endorse some evil angry old man to take the nation to unjustifiable wars and watch like complacent sheep while essential rights are stripped of them.

The "majority" is something to be pitied, it' s people who need help. But they are not the ones we should take as standards or goal posts.

Horst,

I think it's easy to feel like that, but I don't think the 'majority' is quite as uniform and bleak as you paint it.

We all need to have our own standards and goalposts, I agree, and a lowest common denominator isn't to be aspired to.

On the other hand, I'm sure if everyone was active, many would view the place as being ungovernable, but in fact, I think it would mean politicians would be much more careful and responsive. The old adage is that, as a community, we get the politicians we deserve.

I wonder how often politicians and bureaucracies do much better?
