Yes Horst, but most of the fights humans have are not about possessions but their place in the hierarchy. If their neighbour has something they will want to be better. Man has an almost limitless talent for excess.

Only as long as thy hope to get an advantage form it.

If there is no scarcity (and at least within OECD countries there is absolutely no excuse anymore for the artificial scarcity they maintain) and no artificial social/cultural constraints there is no benefit in stealing or doctoring their versions of the truth any more either - only those with psychopathology would but if there is no scarcity of health care provision, even that problem vanishes.

Moving a fence post stealthily in order to "acquire land" means nothing any more to industrialized city people. Likewise, the concept of "property" other than for emotional purposes becomes obsolete in times of cornucopia. If there is more of everything than you can use, and you can have what you want, no point any more clinging to things. And once you leave this planet either physically or by moving into virtual reality, there is not even scarcity of "real estate" any more - anybody could have the "place with a view" they desire.

If people would learn to think ahead and work towards that goal - that alone would already reduce crime dramatically because many would recognize how utterly pointless it is.
