If you have an XP pro workstation ready to be a spare server, does this mean you have to buy two sets of licences?

My inhibition about terminal services in a medical centre has always been that you become dependent on one very special machine, and if the system uses thin/old clients, you have to have another 'special' machine to ensure you can get up and running quickly if you have a server failure. I like to have another suitable desktop/'emergency server' which can serve as an emergency server, which copies the server's data into the relevant folders after the backup each night. I'm hardware focussed, I suppose. To be sure, to be sure, to be sure.

We always put in at least one desktop machine to run all the shit that shouldn't be on the server (pathology etc particularly in a TS environment) and the scanner. Nowadays we set it up at installation time to be a warm spare server, with the database/s replicating as automatically and as often as possible.

With thin client failure rates at 0% I don't recommend client / server to anyone but the smallest site <= 5 seats.
