I'll have a look at MS licensing and where it's currently at. They have a nasty habit of changing the rules. AFAIK the cheapest way to get SBS 2000 is a second hand copy of Windows SBS 2003 Premium. The MSSQL installer works and licenses on a Windows 2003 standard server. There are a couple of these on Ebay US at ~ US$600.

HCN have told me that 3.6 (due soon) will run on SQL2005, and with it's better governance rules this may save some sites from upgrading to SQL Server.
