I'm actually loving this update.

Things have been a bit quiet and this update gave me 6 hours work in a tiny
3 GP practice.

My thanks go to HCN for their unending support of techies in small
businesses all over Australia.

I had a go at a 3.6 upgrade last night and failed. I've got some

theories for trying again and am reasonably hopeful of succeeding.

Having seen the upgrade process in detail, however, I have a great deal

of sympathy for HCN in trying to support this upgrade across a range of

Microsoft servers and operating systems. There are just too many

variables to make it seamless for everyone (sor perhaps even anyone).

P.S. I could have added how much simpler things are in the linux world,

but I won't.

I've been back from holidays for all of a day and have already seen 2 / 4
upgrades fail. HCN tech support is so swamped that I had trouble getting in
the queue today (although to be fair I also had to call Optus and they were
much worse).

It's hard to install 15 or so programmes on Windows in a scripted fashion.
One site couldn't install Acrobat but I didn't get any useful debug until I
tried the Acrobat installer "manually", just a message to call HCN support!

It's a huge upgrade and the end result appears to be an improvement in speed
and probably functionality.

Still, it's a damn shame we can't just "apt-get install MDW3".

Peter.
