hi all, it was really interesting to note the kind of responses i got from the "progressive" greenyouth forum while debating the issue of caste/gender vis-a-vis chitralekha issue. Just quoting what Kancha Ilaih wrote in Subaltern studies vol.9 in 1996 and wonder how true it s even in 2007 !!
"I strongly belive that unless the oppressed learn to hegemonise their own self, unless the culture and consciousness of the oppressed is put forward visibly in public debate, unless this culture is prepared to clash with the culture and consciousness of the enemy in public, a society of equals will remain an illusion........ i have also been subject to 'friendly' upper caste suggestions that in the process of highlighting dalitbahujan strength, there is no need to attack the other (in their lang 'abuse the other'). ............. in other words we r being askd to submit a statement of our sorrows and seek remedies. it also means that we should not abuse the abuser. The DAlitbahujan experience tells us that no abuser stops abusing unless there is retaliation....in fact there is no other way to break the culture of silence of the 'historical object of abuse" i wonder how long will it take for "US" to digest this.? thanks and regards -- Ranjit --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Green Youth Movement" group.
