t was really interesting to note the kind of responses i got from the "progressive" greenyouth forum while debating the issue of caste/gender vis-a-vis chitralekha issue.
I hope this is not a post mortem [ as most of the academic discourses are on such issues]. I personally found this space as non hierarchical where one [ irrespective of their identity, whether avtivist, academic, ficttious or real] could opt to be vulnerable. We are writing not for other academics / activists but to a community which at least encourage you to be vague, unclear and even contradictory [ as all our lives are..] I felt like responding to the lengthy input from Christy and jenny on Chitrlekha issue. I found it a welcome move from somebody involved in academics to share one's observations to a concerned community. But as their views were presented in a serious and responsible manner I waited till I could go through it and come up with equally responsible comments [ I don't consider this as a 'complimentary' or 'less serious' domain ] As for Ranjith's attempts at rationalizing his interventions, i still find it as non reflexive and off the mark about the power relations involved in this forum. Cyber democracy calls for a more nuanced understanding. I find the way in which he is assuming ploitical identities as 'problematic' [ Deepak kshamikkuka!!]. Could you deny that virtual 'Ranjith' was selective while being abusive? For instance, Devika also disagreed with you [ partially] but you chose to remain silent. At hindsight, don't you think you could have made the discussion on Chitralekha more fruitful if you engaged Devika instead of 'abusing' me?[ In case you did so, would that have been a similar abusive engagement?] I know I am part of the problem than solution but your self righteousness really surprises me!! Devika's remarks were insightful and significant on earlier instances as well. I found them very imaginative in its unclear shape. Such interventions made this forum the most live platform to critically engage with Kerala's political present. Personally I don't assume this to be an ideal community where ideal [rational] communication will be possible. But problems like the politics of academic knowledge production, power enjoyed by intellectuals within certain domains etc. will have to be debated as well to arrive at a nuanced picture of the whole episode. Sanni M Kapikkad, while responding to an article on intercaste marriages writes on Chitralekha issue [ Malayalam Varika]. A dialogue could be started if somebody intervenes in that forum . --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Green Youth Movement" group.
