just forwarding from an interesting piece:

"The theory that cyberspace is an open space is at once true and not so
true. There are protocols of appreciation of the cyberspace and its various
cultural products or goods. These protocols of appreciation are protocols of
exclusion. The invention of moderator and moderation in E discussion groups
is a sort of protocol that is based on the premise of an essentialised
conception of what is 'good'.

...The intimacy of the cyberspace produces a stickiness that needs to be
guarded (read untouchability) against through the agency of moderator and
moderation. Caste panchayats were the earlier forms of cordoning off such
seminal contacts."

hegemony is decided by the power-centre (philosophy of caste panchayats or
moderators)

counter-hegemony by the new assertions (ideology being the playground)
