I removed Growl and Mail still crashed every time. Re-installed it
just to insure I uninstalled it correctly and still crashed every
time.
Removed Growl manually according to instructions, automatically using
their "uninstall" script, and frantically using the hunt-through-every-
folder-you-think-might-have-something-to-do-with-it method and still
it crashed Mail every time. (Sending myself replies to a message
mailed to myself to test it).
Searched using Spotlight, Find, and Terminal (which I admit I don't
work well) and found no remaining files with the phrase "growl" in
them...
However, on a hunch, in the system Library/Mail/Bundles I found a
folder GrowlMail.mailbundle which, when deleted, solved the problem.
Probably, anyway. We will see.
Anyway, Growl is now on my avoid-at-all-costs lists until proven
otherwise.
