The difference in height of the 170/60 and 180/55 is 3 mm, well within
wearing limits. I'm on my second 180 tire and I haven't noticed any handling
disadvantage...so IMO if you don't care about a few extra dollars go right
ahead. The 190/50 will be 7 mm lower in height which would be a bit risky I
think...plus the rim width seems too narrow for it...most run 6" rims I
believe for 190 tires...Jo.

your pithy ruminations on <Tires> were:

Lots of people have tried oversized tires. There's a reason that they aren't
wildly recommended.
=> would rather ask first. The Avon Azaro 120 70 zr 17 front & 190 50 zr 17
=

You want input? That's the right choice for the front, but a poor idea for
the
rear. I ran a 180/55 on the rear once. Due to the lower profile, as the
tire
wore the center flat spot became more evident than with the stock size, and
handling suffered more dramatically. You'd have the same effect--even more
so--with a 190/50. In addition, I'm not sure that tire would fit without
rubbing anywhere.

If you regularly wear out the edges of your rear tire well before the
center,
then go for it. Otherwise it means your spending money for poser value that
will decrease the handling.
