This sounds like a classic lean hesitation to mean. George P and I have
attempted to address this by advancing the TPS all the way. It does seem to
lessen the effect noticably, but it does not completely eliminate it. I have
come to the conclusion after playing with cam timing on an R-1 that the GTS
might just need to have the cams re degreed to help even more in this
situation. Advancing the intake cam timing yeilds the same affect as
richening the mixture. One other less than impressive thing I found out was
that on the R-1 the cam timing is +/- 3 degrees. That is a 6 degree range
that would totally change the characteristics of the engine. Stay tuned for
more details on this. If this proves to be successful, Pat and I plan to
machine new sprockets with exactly the correct advance so that they would be
a bolt in application, for the purposes of getting properly degreed cams in a
bolt in application. No dial indicators, degree wheels or calculators
required. Anyhow, that is it for now.
