I have seen that problem too. You should not have any play anywhere in the
rear suspension up and down. Measure the pivot bolt for the swing arm with a
micrometer in several places along the length of the bolt. If you detect any
difference, replace it. If you do not detect a difference in the diameters of
the bolt, replace the collar (spacer). As far as buying one shim or two, the
correct way to do it is to split the difference of clearance so your swingarm
remains centered.
